First Baptist Church has a deep love for missions and a long history of missions support. She currently gives 11% of budget receipts to support home and foreign missions as well as both Southwestern and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminaries. First Baptist Church is a missions-giving church.
Our love and support for missions is evident in mission projects undertaken by the youth and adults of First Baptist. Our youth will go somewhere each summer to minister both in and out of state. Pastor Jeff led a group to Armenia in April 2007, and Pastor James led a group to Venezuela in July 2007. Pastor Jason led a group to Belize in June 2007. Pastor Buck led a group to Trinidad in June 2008. We sent a group to Ecuador in July 2009. Individual church members have also gone overseas to serve in various capacities. Future interests also lie in adult mission projects within the United States. Over 10% of our church's average Sunday School attendance has participated in an international mission project in 2006-2009. First Baptist Church is a missions-going church.
Missions support also takes place on a very personal level. First Baptist has partnered with a missionary couple, Chad and Crystal, committing to pray for them and their ministry to the people of Santiago, Chile. Crystal grew up in First Baptist Church where she began her missions education. First Baptist Church is a missions-sending church.
